Novata Solutions felt privileged to be sponsors of the United Way WA - Empowered 4 Employment event, held at Backlot Studios in Leederville last Thursday. The event was to inform and acknowledge the United Way WA assistance given to survivors of Family Domestic Violence, aiming to get them back into the work force, by mentoring and counselling and the start of a change to support and empower women in their return to work and taking back control of their lives.
We were proud to be sponsors of this event, and the Novata girls that attended were given knowledge and insight into an ugly fact of life – Family Domestic Violence. We learnt that it is estimated that two in every five women have experienced some sort of violence in their lifetime. Two brave and amazing women spoke about their experiences and how they have overcome some of their trauma through the program with United Way WA, through counselling, mentorship and sisterhood. Knowing they are not alone, that they have value and are able to achieve goals of safety, financial and personal independence, has had such a positive impact to these ladies. It has given them hope and the ability to start to trust again.
One of the guest speakers for the night was Feminist Leader Tania Cecconi, who is a renowned advocate and trainer of CEO’s initiating discussions on Gender Equality and equal pay and rights. One of Tania's career highlights has been shifting the conversation in WA from fixing women to fixing workplaces! This has been a game-changing proposition, converting the attitude of CEO’s towards providing an inclusive and gender diverse culture in their workplace. Her speech was educational, powerful, and engaging, and one that has resonated with the women in our office who attended.
An informative and powerfully thought provoking event from the team at United Way WA and thank you to Kath Snell, and her team, to the individuals who bravely told their story, the mentors and all involved.
United Way WA is a Not for Profit organisation, that assists with supporting the community in Education, Financial Stability and Healthy Living. Information on how to Donate, Volunteer, mentor and support can be found on their website.
